The Spanish Embassy in Honduras has proposed ACOES (Collaboration and Effort Association) Honduras as a candidate for the Princess of Asturias Awards in the category of International Cooperation for its work in promoting education among the most disadvantaged classes "as a tool that allows them to build a dignified life, thus contributing to the creation of a more just and supportive society." This organization has a special connection to Lanzarote, where more than fifty people collaborated with the association through the sponsorship formula. In fact, a campaign has already been launched on the island to support the ACOES candidacy

Promoted by Father Patricio Larrosa, the launch of ACOES Honduras more than 20 years ago has enabled more than 7,000 Honduran children and young people to benefit from various educational, health and prevention projects. All this thanks to the active work of more than 300 collaborators and volunteers, and from the conviction that the integral education of the person is the basis for helping individuals out of extreme poverty and for creating more egalitarian societies.

Last May, Father Patricio Larrosa traveled to Lanzarote to publicize the work of ACOES Honduras through the island's media, as well as the meetings he held with students and teachers from the Costa Teguise, Nieves Toledo and Nazarenas schools. He also held meetings with members of the Rotary Clubs of Arrecife and Costa Teguise, and in the parish halls of San Francisco Javier as well as with the Charismatic group.

Selfless support

Currently, the contribution of Lanzarote residents continues altruistically with the commendable work of ACOES Honduras through the sponsorship formula for children and young people. In fact, they have promoted a collection of signatures on the island to support the candidacy of ACOES Honduras for the Princess of Asturias Awards in the International Cooperation category.

Until January 31, this proposal can be supported in Lanzarote by signing the support document. The places enabled to sign are the premises of the association 'Help to Help' located in the Plaza de San Ginés de Arrecife; the pharmacy of the Deiland Shopping Center in Playa Honda and the church of Santa María de la Vega, in Arrecife (in this case at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday the 21st and at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday the 22nd).
