The Security Consortium has completed the XVII Fire Prevention Week after more than a dozen activities carried out since last November 29.
Organized by the Consortium itself, the MAPFRE Foundation and the Professional Association of Fire Technicians (APTB), the program of events has focused on training, prevention techniques, cooperation of emergency services and early learning of schoolchildren.
Thus, different simulations have taken place, with the aim of training the evacuation and extinguishing of fires, as happened in the IES César Manrique, CEIP La Garita, Las Cabreras Day Center or the one carried out this Friday on the island of La Graciosa, with the inclusion of an assembly of a shelter by the Red Cross for people affected by the fire.
Along with this, hundreds of schoolchildren have been able to participate in the "smoke house", a device that has allowed to transfer advice to the youngest children on how to act in the event of a fire in their homes or school.
This activity has been completed with a day on accident prevention and first aid aimed precisely at teachers, with the collaboration of staff from the Canary Islands Health Service.
For the president of the Security Consortium, Marcos Bergaz, "all these activities seek to enshrine the maxim 'prevention is better than cure', but also allow, if necessary, all emergency teams to be prepared to intervene in the extinction of a fire."
For his part, the manager Enrique Espinosa pointed out that "coordination, training and continuous improvement in intervention techniques are essential for an effective action that avoids or reduces damage, and the actions developed in this prevention week allow us to fine-tune all human and material resources."
