A Civil Guard officer who was assigned to the Lanzarote airport has tested positive for the coronavirus, as confirmed to La Voz by official sources. In addition, this has forced other colleagues who worked in the same department to be quarantined, and who are now awaiting the results of the tests.

After the declaration of the state of alarm in Spain, the situation at the airport led to complaints from many workers, due to the amount of people crowding in the facilities. Finally, after the massive departure of tourists last week, activity was significantly reduced during the weekend, and since this Thursday Terminal 1 is no longer operating. Now only Terminal 2 is operational, for the only connections with the Peninsula and between the islands that have been authorized, as well as for some international flights that arrive only to pick up tourists who have not yet been able to leave Lanzarote.

Until Wednesday night, 23 cases had already been confirmed in Lanzarote, to which must now be added at least that of this agent. In addition, two deaths had been recorded, the first of a 71-year-old German who resided in the municipality of Yaiza and the second this Thursday, of an 80-year-old man of English nationality.
