The municipality of Yaiza has raised this Monday morning its two newly renovated blue flags that distinguish the small beach of Playa Blanca and the marina of Puerto Calero as two spaces of clean, safe, comfortable waters, respectful of the environment and equipped with complementary services according to their purpose of use and enjoyment, it is, as pointed out by the entity that awards the prize, the Association of Environmental Education and Consumer (ADEAC), "the most recognizable and recognized symbol by the millions of users of beaches and ports, in almost half a hundred countries, as well as a global standard of tourist eco-quality, prior to and inspiring other initiatives for the certification of the quality of beaches and ports", informs the City Council of Yaiza.

Óscar Noda, and the Councilor for Tourism and Beaches, Daniel Medina, first raised the flag in Playa Blanca and then together with the Councilor for Sports, Ángel Lago, and the representation of the property of Puerto Calero, José Juan Calero, CEO of Calero Marinas and Alejandro Betancor, manager of Puerto Calero, did the same in the facilities of the marina, which with this year 2023 reaches 28 blue flags consecutively.

"For Yaiza it is a great pride to hold two blue flags in its municipal area, as we are a quality tourist destination in the Canary Islands and this international prestige award helps us to maintain our positioning", says the mayor, who also highlights "the effort of the City Council, in the case of the beach, and Calero Marinas, in the case of the marina, because year after year the evaluation criteria are much more demanding". To give us an idea, only four Canary Island ports have won the award and Puerto Calero is the only one in Lanzarote", adds Noda.

Councilor Daniel Medina recalls that "our small beach of a lifetime is equipped with ramp and accessibility walkway, shade area for people with reduced mobility and rescue service, among other features, which make the town of Playa Blanca deserving of its blue flag".

The ADEAC evaluation on beaches takes into account, among other criteria, information and environmental education, water quality, accessibility, safety and services, while in ports it also emphasizes environmental management. Puerto Calero stands out for its environmental management and waste management and carries out awareness campaigns so that port users and visitors are more aware of the need to preserve the ecosystem. The property transmitted to the public representatives its commitment to the environment and tourism excellence through the promotion and implementation of new initiatives.
