The Canary Islands Executive has informed the Government Delegation for Gender Violence that there is a lack of personnel in Lanzarote to implement the control devices with which women who are victims of gender violence are protected. In addition to other islands such as Fuerteventura, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera.
As reported in a statement this Wednesday by the Regional Ministry of Justice, the Vice-Ministry of Justice has sent a letter to the Government Delegation for Gender Violence asking that the service offered by the concessionaire company in the Canary Islands be supervised so that judicial orders are processed with due speed.
The letter, signed by Deputy Minister Cesáreo Rodríguez, details the information gathered both by his department and that sent by the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence of the General Council of the Judiciary, which refers to a communication from the courts of Los Llanos de Aridane (La Palma), where it warns of the shortage of devices and the lack of personnel to install them due to the lack of technicians in the non-capital islands.
"This represents a setback in the provision of the service that could lead to a decrease in the necessary protection of victims of violence and endanger the integrity of women," Rodríguez warned.
According to the information available to the Canary Islands Vice-Ministry of Justice, there are only two technicians assigned per province, which would be an "insufficient" number to offer the service on several islands at the same time, since the devices must be prepared to be installed on the same day that it is agreed by the judicial authority, regardless of the time and date, any day of the week."
The Deputy Minister considers that "the fact that the concessionaire company does not have technicians on all the islands represents a setback in the provision of the service," which "could undermine the protection of victims of gender violence and endanger their integrity."
The system of monitoring by telematic means the fulfillment of the prohibitions of approach imposed in the field of gender violence and in the field of sexual violence allows verifying the fulfillment of the prohibitions of approach to the victim imposed in the procedures that are followed by gender violence and by sexual violence in which the judicial authority agrees to its use, recalls the note.
This method offers updated and permanent information on incidents that affect the fulfillment or non-fulfillment of the measures, as well as possible incidents, both accidental and provoked, in the operation of the electronic devices used, he adds.
According to the Ministry of Equality, the provision of the monitoring system service is contracted to a private company, which is responsible for carrying out the tasks related to the installation, monitoring and uninstalling of the devices of the monitoring system.
These tasks are carried out by the Cometa Center, which is the one that relates to the judicial bodies, the Public Prosecutor's Office and the Security Forces, and is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
