The Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, a center attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, within the framework of its commitment to the humanization of healthcare, hosts live music concerts offered by the artists of the Social Action Association Acompañar.
This initiative is part of a collaboration protocol between the Lanzarote Health Services Management and the association and aims to offer emotional support to patients, families and professionals of the hospital center. Music, as part of the humanization actions, has a positive impact on patients and contributes to improving their mood, reducing stress and reducing the sensation of pain.
The concerts take place mainly in the Oncology ward, in the Oncohematological Day Hospital and in the Pediatrics service, and sometimes also take place in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Throughout the year, every two weeks, the musicians of Acompañar participate in the hospital process, always with prior consent, with musical accompaniment in the different spaces. The artists come to Molina Orosa to perform their songs and with each performance contribute to creating a warmer and more comforting environment for patients and their companions, thus reinforcing the center's commitment to comprehensive and humane care.
In the Pediatrics service, music therapy sessions are also held in coordination with the tutor of the hospital classroom.
From the coordination of the Oncohematological Day Hospital of Molina Orosa, it is ensured that music always helps patients, makes treatment and stay in the Hospital more bearable and lifts the spirits of everyone, patients, families and healthcare personnel.
The manager of the island's Health Services, Pablo Eguia, considers that the collaboration agreement with the Acompañar Association, together with other humanization actions, "tries to put the person at the center of attention, taking care not only of physical health, but also of the emotional well-being of patients and families".
