The trade union delegate of the Independent Trade Union and Civil Servants Center (CSIF) in Lanzarote, Pablo Betancort, denounces the poor condition of the facilities of the Teguise Justice of the Peace building that "endanger the health of workers and users".

According to Betancort, "the wall coverings are falling off from the humidity and there are cracks that go up that we really don't know if there could be a collapse or the ceiling covering could even come off as has happened with the walls and injure a worker or person who goes there."

"We have repeatedly asked the City Council to do the maintenance that should be done because it has not been painted on the outside for years," he says.

In July, they submitted a letter to the City Council to demand improvements in the building, which in this case is the responsibility of the City Council, although the officials depend on the Government of the Canary Islands. That is why they have also made the regional government aware of the problem so that "they know that their workers are facing a health risk."

In addition, during a visit by Betancort together with the provincial manager and the Prevention delegate of the Government of the Canary Islands, who is a medical examiner, they detected a large damp stain on the ceiling. "She gave a lot of importance to something that I overlooked and that is that there is an enormous humidity of about 50 centimeters in diameter on the ceiling right above where the workers are. With her technical knowledge, she said that we don't know what spores the workers and users are breathing," he explains.

"At the City Council we were received by the councilor responsible for this area and she promised us that a technician would come to verify that crack and the maintenance work would be imminent, but we never received that call," says the official.

That is why, through the law that protects them, they have decided to close the Justice of the Peace "due to the risks involved in the situation." At the Personnel Board scheduled for the 15th, this will be one of the items on the agenda.
