CEIP Capellanía de Yágabo and its short film 'Echoes of a Future Past' win Cinedfest 2025

The students in the Infant and Primary category of the Lanzarote center received the First Prize and also the award for Best Horror-Fantastic Short Film Isla Calavera

The Infant and Primary category of the 12th edition of Cinedfest already has a winner: it is the short film Echoes of a Future Past, from CEIP Capellanía de Yágabo, which this Tuesday received the First Prize and also the award for Best Horror-Fantastic Short Film Isla Calavera at the gala held at Multicines Tenerife.

Blackout, from CEIP Prácticas Aneja, won the Second Prize and Leo's Recess, from CEIP Orobal, was chosen as the Best Children's Short Film, while the public opted for Changes, from CPEIPS Enrique de Ossó, which won in the Popular Vote.

The event, which was presented by journalist Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, was attended by the councilor of Fuerteventura Film Commission, Nereida Calero, in addition to the hundreds of students and teachers from the Infant and Primary Education Schools of the islands who participated that year in the festival.

During the gala, numerous awards were presented, including a Special Mention Cinedfest to Talent Show, from CEIP Llano de las Naciones, for its work with students in inclusion, teaching them sign language and training them as audio describers of audiovisual productions.

In addition, the Canary Islands Government Award for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development went to The 3 R Command, from CEIP Valle San Lorenzo. The Social Cinema Award went to Letters to the Air, from CEIP La Paredilla, which also won the award for Best Original Soundtrack for Davinia Trujillo and Yeroboam Santana, while the Senior Citizens-Social Welfare Award from the La Laguna City Council was won by Grandmother Margarita, from CPDEM Liceo Francés Internacional de Tenerife, and the Primary Documentary Award went to Playing in Time, Uniting Generations, from CEIP La Cardonera.

Finally, the Distribution Award and Best Sound went to The Sound of Silence, from CEIP Benito Méndez Tarajano and the Infant-Primary Educational Center Award was won by CEIP Llano de las Naciones.

In total, up to 442 short films were submitted to Cinedfest 12, of which 325 were made by the 236 Canary Islands educational centers registered in this edition of the festival. These were joined by 74 short films from the peninsula, 40 international and three created by universities.

The gala also presented the awards for Best Comedy Short Film, which went to Accents, from CEIP El Roque; the Best Screenplay went to Alienated, from CEIP Tagoja; and in the Best Direction category, Valentina Camacho and Carla García won for Are They Playing with Me?, from CEIP Adamancasis. In addition, Ian Luis Morales was chosen as Best Actor for A Step to Talent, from CEIP Fernando III El Santo, and Simona Dufour won the award for Best Actress for The Infinite Classroom, from CEIP Llano de las Naciones, and the award for Best Photography was won by The Mystery of the Key, from CEIP Gabriel Duque Acosta.

David Cánovas, co-director of Cinedfest, praised the quality of the works presented and recalled that the students of the Infant and Primary Education Schools "elaborated their audiovisual pieces based on the audiovisual training offered by our festival, both in person and online, for teachers and students."

 

12th edition of Cinedfest

Cinedfest is an innovative educational commitment aimed at students of Infant, Primary, Secondary, Baccalaureate, FP, CEPA, EOI, EASD, enclave classrooms and associations of people with disabilities, universities and film schools.

This initiative, which has been developed for 12 years, combines audiovisual training with a festival of fiction and documentary short films made by students, with which it manages to bring audiovisual language to the classrooms and introduce cinema as a didactic tool in educational centers.

The twelfth edition of the festival has been possible thanks to the sponsorship of the Department of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Tenerife Joven y Educa, Department of Education and Youth of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria Joven, Department of Culture and Historical Heritage of the Cabildo de La Palma, Department of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Department of Finance and Relations with the European Union-Commissioner of the REF of the Canary Islands, Department of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families of the Government of the Canary Islands, Co-responsible, University of La Laguna, Department of Social Welfare and Quality of Life of the City Council of La Laguna, Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Fuerteventura Film Commission, Fundación la Caixa and Filmin.
