The City Council of Haría and Arrecife has decreed the suspension of sports, educational and cultural outdoor activities due to the high temperatures recorded in Lanzarote.
The measure will be in effect from this Wednesday, July 12, until this Friday, July 14. The Consistory has taken this measure in order to "avoid the dangers that this meteorological phenomenon could pose to the users of the municipal facilities," it states.
Citizens are recommended to avoid recreational or recreational activities in open spaces, staying in places protected from the sun for as long as possible, and follow the recommendations of the authorities. The residents of the municipality will be able to consult all the measures and recommendations of the Government of the Canary Islands through its website.
Also the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León Machín, has signed this Wednesday morning the decree suspending all activities in the capital of Lanzarote, which will remain in effect until twelve midnight on Friday, July 14.
The decree states that "given the recommendations of the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands within the 'Plan for the Prevention of the Effects of Excess Temperature', the suspension of outdoor sports, educational, cultural, etc. activities is recommended in yellow and orange warnings, on the indicated days, due to the situation in which the island finds itself."
Therefore, and in coordination with all the municipalities of Lanzarote, and the indications of the Security and Emergency Consortium of the island, the capital Consistory has agreed to "suspend outdoor activities related to sports, culture, teachers, etc."
Likewise, from the Department of Security and Emergencies of the City Council, under the direction of the councilor Kevin Cortés, “the measures determined in the Municipal Emergency Plan approved initially by the Plenary Session of November 29, 2019 and published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas dated December 11, 2019, number 149” have been activated.
