Workers at the Tahíche prison have gathered again this Wednesday at the gates of the center, this time to denounce the aggression suffered last weekend by three colleagues by an inmate. The concentration has been called by a new association, "Your abandonment can kill me", with which the officials intend to raise their voice about this type of cases and alert of the problems they suffer in prison.
"We want to denounce a situation that has been inherited from the previous management of this Center, a very permissive management with the reception of inmates from other parts of the Canary Islands without any connection with this island and with a very high risk profile", they point out from this association, which emphasizes that it is "unrelated to unions and political parties", although there are also union members who have joined the protest.
Now, they hope that the new management of the center will change this situation, since one of the complaints that prison officials have been raising for years is that the Tahíche center welcomes violent inmates, in many cases from other islands, despite the fact that it does not have the necessary security measures for this or with sufficient personnel.
A violent prisoner arrived from Gran Canaria
In the case of the prisoner who injured three officials last Saturday, he had been transferred from Gran Canaria, where he had already starred in "numerous serious altercations." However, when he arrived in Lanzarote, the protocol was not activated, according to Acaip.
The events occurred when these three officials intervened to prevent this inmate from attacking another prisoner. According to them, he had broken a broomstick with which he threatened the workers and then threw "kicks and punches" at them, until he was finally reduced and transferred to the isolation module. For their part, according to their colleagues, the officials were treated in the center's infirmary with "injuries of various consideration."
