Lanzarote registered during the first two months of 2021 a total of 174 work accidents, which represents a decrease of 44.9% compared to last year.
This is clear from a statistic published in the Data Center of the Cabildo, which compares the work accidents registered in January and February of this year with those that occurred in the same period of 2020. However, it should be noted that, after the state of alarm decreed in March of last year due to Covid, there was a significant decrease in work activity on the island, which led thousands of people to unemployment or to be in ERTE, many of whom are still in this situation.
In fact, Lanzarote closed February of this year with 19,872 unemployed, compared to 11,207 in the same month of 2020. In addition, as of January 31 of this year, there were still 20,176 workers in ERTE on the island. Thus, the decrease in the number of work accidents could be due to the fall in work activity.
Of the 174 work accidents registered in the first two months of this 2021, none of them were fatal or "very serious". However, there were two serious accidents, a figure that has doubled compared to last year.
The rest of the accidents, specifically 172, were minor, registering a decrease in them of 45.2% compared to the first two months of 2020. And it is that, then there were 314 minor work accidents that occurred on the island.
