On Monday night, two loggerhead turtles were rescued in the Lajiar area, in Órzola. Both animals were trapped in a fishing trammel, an illegal art.

The two turtles have been referred to the vet of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to inspect them and check their health and return them to the sea.

The loggerhead turtle, whose scientific name is Caretta caretta, is the most common species in the waters of the Canary Islands and is even more present in spring and summer. It can reach 1.70 meters in length and weigh up to 100 kilograms. Its life expectancy is around 60 years although there are cases in which they have reached 100.
