The Civil Guard of Costa Teguise arrested on July 25 two alleged perpetrators of four robbery crimes committed in rental vehicles in Lanzarote. According to the Benemérita, these are two people aged 39 and 40, with initials R.I.C.T. and J.J.G.Q., both with police records; one of them having up to ten records for similar crimes. The arrested, who had traveled from Tenerife, focused their activity on cars parked in the tourist areas of the island.
The Civil Guard received on July 24 a first complaint of a robbery with force inside a vehicle committed in a scattered area of the town of Máquez. The perpetrators broke one of the car's windows to steal several objects that were inside. Hours later, the National Police of Arrecife received another complaint for similar events, but in this case occurred at the Mirador del Río, in the municipality of Haría.
After receiving the first two complaints and collecting the evidence provided by the complainants, the Civil Guard agents obtained several clues -a vehicle model and a license plate- that put them on the trail of a suspicious car.
They were located in the vicinity of the Mirador del Río
From that moment on, they began the investigation of both pieces of evidence, verifying that the license plate did not initially match the suspicious vehicle model, so a filtering of license plates with similar characteristics was carried out. A task they did supported by the Traffic Investigation and Analysis Group of the Association. The filtering of license plates allowed to find one with the same numbering as the model of the aforementioned vehicle. Thus, the agents verified that the order of the letters of the license plate that they had indicated at the beginning was not correct.
After all this, it was confirmed that the car corresponded to a white Fiat Punto and that it belonged to a rental company on the island, so the different patrols were immediately notified about this suspicious vehicle. In addition, the agents of the Investigation Area of Costa Teguise obtained the statement of a witness, confirming the physical description of the two alleged perpetrators of the described robberies.
On July 25, the Civil Guard agents, after being alerted by another robbery of similar characteristics that occurred this time on the beach of Caletón Blanco (municipality of Haría), decided to give a raid in other areas where more robberies could be committed. Finally, they located the suspicious vehicle in the vicinity of the Mirador del Río.
They recovered an Iphone 7, a GPS, fishing equipment, money...
Next, the agents identified the two occupants of the vehicle, verifying how all the evidence collected in the investigation coincided with the occupants. In addition, the agents found 200 euros in bills of various values hidden in different parts of its interior, sunglasses related to another theft committed on the beach of Papagayo in the municipality of Yaiza, as well as a large flat screwdriver, which was hidden under the gear lever.
The Civil Guard has highlighted that "all the affected vehicles were rented " and that they used "both screwdrivers and stones to open them, with which they broke the windows, except in one of them, which they had forgotten to put the insurance on". In addition, the reported effects ranged from "several mobile phones, of which an Iphone 7 has been recovered, wallets with documentation, cash, fishing equipment and a G.P.S. device".
Therefore, the agents proceeded to arrest these two people as alleged perpetrators of three robberies with force and a crime of theft committed in vehicles in different areas of tourist influx on the island. Both were placed at the disposal of the corresponding Court, on guard duty, of the town of Arrecife.
