Two people have been arrested and another investigated for the theft of copper cables that left part of the Costa Teguise promenade without light.

According to sources close to the investigation, the detainees are a man and a woman, who were arrested on the 12th and 14th of this month. The other person involved is a man, who was investigated on the 13th by the Civil Guard. The three are accused of a crime of robbery with force, in addition to causing damages valued at 6,000 euros, which is what the labor cost to repair the damaged elements.

After the robbery, in which finally about 1,080 kilos of public lighting cable were stolen, the Civil Guard began an investigation in which it carried out inspections in stores where the material could have been sold, locating in one of them, a metal recovery store, a batch of 147 kilograms of braided copper that had the same characteristics as the stolen one. In addition, an employee of the company that performs the assembly and maintenance of public lighting of the City Council of Teguise was able to recognize the located cable as the stolen one.

However, when going to identify the person who supposedly made the delivery, the Civil Guard agents verified that he had been out of the island for a month, so his authorship was impossible. And it is that, according to what La Voz has learned, they presented the documentation of another person to avoid being located.

Therefore, the investigation focused on the staff of the recovery company, with whom it was possible to verify that three people were present at the act of selling the copper and that one of them had already made several sales. In addition, the vehicle with which the stolen cabling was transported was located, proceeding to the arrest of the driver, a 53-year-old woman without police records, who used her car to deliver the material to the recovery company.

Later, another person was investigated, a 36-year-old man without a criminal record, and a third was arrested, a 25-year-old man with numerous criminal records, all of them being placed at the judicial disposal of the corresponding Arrecife Court acting as duty judge. Likewise, the 147 kilograms of copper recovered by the Civil Guard were handed over to those in charge of public lighting of the Teguise City Council.
