A person "shot" several times with a high-powered laser pointer at the cabin of a Binter plane that was about to land in Lanzarote. This was reported by the Binter pilot, Sergio Pila, through his Twitter account.
This Friday, May 19, when the plane was flying over the Lanzarote town of Playa Blanca, an "enlightened person shot" several times with a high-powered laser pointer at the plane's cabin in order to disturb the pilots.
"And not once, or twice, but he tried to follow with the laser as long as he could. We were lucky that it didn't directly impact the cabin and even with the curtains it was annoying, but obviously much less," explains Pila. "This, which some people think is a game, in addition to endangering the health of the crew members, which if you put it on a scale, although serious, would be the least of it, but it can cause something more serious, leaving the two crew members incapacitated, putting the passengers at risk," adds the pilot.
The pilot points out that "I don't understand how people come up with these things, I really don't get it. Obviously, we notified the Civil Guard to try to locate the criminal, as he has no other name. Obviously, it is very difficult to locate him because we couldn't pinpoint the exact position either."
Finally, Sergio Pila thanks the air traffic controllers who "from the first moment were concerned about how the crew was doing and once we landed we spoke by phone to try to better pinpoint the location and their concern for us was the first thing."
It should be remembered that the projection of beams of light by any type of device on pilots or drivers of means of transport, which may dazzle them or distract their attention and cause accidents, are considered very serious infractions that can be sanctioned with fines of between 30,000 and 600,000 euros according to the Citizen Security Protection Law.
