The deputy mayor and Councilor for Festivities of the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, thanks the extraordinary participation registered during the events organized on the occasion of Canary Islands Day, a celebration that turned José Ramírez Cerdá Park into a great meeting space throughout the weekend to share tradition, culture, music, and a sense of belonging.
Residents and visitors responded massively to a program designed to highlight the Canarian roots through gastronomy, crafts, traditional games, children's activities, cultural exhibitions, and an extensive musical program that filled the city center with a festive atmosphere.
From the first activities held on the eve of Canary Islands Day until the most anticipated performances of the main day, the venue registered a large influx of public of all ages.
One of the most emotional and surprising moments of the weekend was experienced during the performance of Parranda Teguey. While the group performed its repertoire, the international singer and songwriter Rosana, Favorite Daughter of Arrecife, appeared by surprise on stage and proposed to the audience and musicians to sing "Somos Costeros" together. The reaction was immediate and the audience became the protagonist. It was an improvised, simple, and close moment, which became one of the most special moments of a celebration that has left numerous images for remembrance.
The program culminated with the performances of Benito Cabrera and José Manuel Ramos and of the Agrupación Los Campesinos, referents of Canarian popular music who completed with each of their songs a night full of emotion, identity, and feeling.
The deputy mayor and Councilor for Festivities, Echedey Eugenio, wanted to convey his gratitude to all citizens for the response obtained.
"I want to sincerely thank the participation of all the people who enjoyed the celebration. We have experienced an extraordinary Canary Islands Day, in which residents and visitors have filled José Ramírez Cerdá Park with life and have demonstrated the enormous affection that exists towards our traditions and our culture," he points out.
Eugenio highlights that “the best heritage that the Canary Islands has is its people, and this weekend Arrecife once again demonstrated it. We have seen older people transmit customs to the younger ones, families sharing our traditions, and thousands of people enjoying together what identifies us as a people”.
Likewise, the councilor thanks the work carried out by municipal services, security forces, technical staff, artisans, parrandas, etc., and all the people who made the development of the program possible.
“These festivals are the result of the collective effort of many people. Thanks to all of them, we have been able to celebrate a Day of Canarias worthy of our city, valuing our roots and proudly projecting our identity,” he concludes.
