The situation of the chimpanzee in Mácher was reported 12 years ago, but nothing was done.

Agents of the Seprona of the Civil Guard have not yet been able to locate the owners of the 80-kilo chimpanzee, which escaped from a farm in Mácher. Although the animal is "well cared for", the Civil Guard points out that "it should be in a specialized center" and not in a private home. The same sources point out that a complaint was filed against the chimpanzee 12 years ago, but it did not go anywhere.

La Voz reported that the Seprona was going to investigate the situation of the chimpanzee and whether it had all the necessary permits, after its owners did not submit any documentation to the Local Police of Tías, who requested it after recovering the animal. More than a week later, the Seprona "has not been able to locate" the owners, with whom it is trying to contact by telephone.

Although the animal's condition is "good", according to the Civil Guard itself, the chimpanzee "cannot be" on a private farm, since the regulations have changed and it should remain in a center where they could care for it in the best conditions. In the search and recovery of this animal, experts from Rancho Texas had to collaborate precisely to be able to assist and even sedate the animal to take it back to its home.

Complaint 12 years ago

The Civil Guard has pointed out to La Voz that 12 years ago "this chimpanzee was already reported", which was placed at the disposal of Customs. However, Customs, which was the competent sanctioning authority, did not move this complaint, which came to nothing.

The chimpanzee has been owned by a family for "about 25 years" and escaped from a farm last Saturday the 21st. The animal was located a day later in the late afternoon by the Local Police of Tías, who found it on a construction site in the Mácher area. In its flight, the chimpanzee did not cause any damage to farms, street furniture or people.
