Agents of the Arrecife Local Police were activated on May 10 on El Antonio street, in the Titeroy neighborhood, due to a traffic accident between the driver of a personal mobility vehicle VMP (electric scooter) and a car. A basic SUC ambulance and a medicalized ambulance also went to the scene, who transferred the VMP driver with very serious multiple injuries to the Doctor José Molina Orosa University Hospital, in Arrecife.

In the investigation of the causes of the accident, the Traffic Unit of the Arrecife Local Police has been able to determine that the VMP driver was driving with a blood alcohol level that quadrupled the maximum allowed rate, in addition to not having respected a STOP sign and having the vehicle's power manipulated, which allowed him to exceed 50 km/h, that is, more than double the speed allowed for this type of vehicle.

The Arrecife Local Police continues to deploy periodic controls on scooter drivers in the capital of Lanzarote, mandated by the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, direct head of the Local Police Area.

This local Corps continues with an arduous control campaign of this type of vehicle, not only denouncing the infractions they observe but also reminding users of the regulations that govern this type of vehicle, including: the prohibition of driving on sidewalks, in the opposite direction or using mobile devices or headphones, as well as the recommendations for using a helmet and having civil liability insurance.
