National Police agents have arrested a 48-year-old man with no police record at Lanzarote airport as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health. The arrested man arrived on the island on a flight from Madrid, with more than 100 capsules of cocaine inside his digestive system.
The Police emphasize that this is the ninth mule they have arrested so far this year at the Lanzarote airport, where this type of intervention is increasing.
Precisely because of this increase in this type of crime, specialized agents of the National Police carry out periodic controls on "hot flights, used as a habitual route by mules who try to introduce drugs" upon arrival at the César Manrique airport in Lanzarote.
In one of them, they identified this new detainee, after arousing the suspicion of the agents. "Once transferred to the Molina Orosa Hospital, the police officers recovered a total of 104 capsules of cocaine, which finally yielded a total weight of 1.2 kilograms," they point out in a statement.
The man was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health and placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, which ordered his immediate imprisonment.
