The most serious incident recorded in the Canary Islands in the early hours of Christmas was the traffic accident in Playa Blanca, which left a taxi driver critically injured and two young people with minor injuries, according to the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 1-1-2.

112 increased its usual activity by 59.9% on Christmas Eve, according to data recorded between 9:00 p.m. on December 24 and 8:00 a.m. on December 25. This increase in activity meant that CECOES resolved a total of 788 incidents in different parts of the archipelago during that period of time, a similar behavior to that of last year on these same dates.

If these data are analyzed by typologies, the security sector registers the highest activity rate with 398 incidents, followed by health care for illness and sanitary transport, which reached 290. Far behind are accidents and rescues, with 43; fire extinguishing with 30 and finally, technical assistance, with 27 incidents.

Compared to a normal day with similar characteristics, the sectors that registered the greatest increase in activity on these dates were fires, those related to security, health care for illness and sanitary transport, and in fourth place, technical assistance. The accident and rescue sector, on the other hand, registered a decrease of 4.7%.

1-1-2 Canarias reminds of the importance of following the self-protection advice that it issues through its social networks with its #Risk0 #SafeChristmas campaign to avoid as much as possible the accidents to which we are all exposed during the Christmas season and thus train the population in the preventive culture.
