The two people injured in the fire that broke out this Thursday in one of the saunas of the Blue Bay hotel in Costa Teguise are two firefighters who participated in extinguishing the fire, as confirmed by the Lanzarote Emergency and Security Consortium. "Both are fine, they went back to work," explained the head of the Consortium, Enrique Espinosa, who pointed out that both "were down there longer than necessary", since the fire occurred in the basement of the hotel, so "they did an overload of effort and heat". That is why they recommended the transfer to the Molina Orosa Hospital, where "they were given oxygen".

In this sense, Espinosa has clarified that "they did not measure the time" of the PPE (firefighter's uniform), since each of these suits has a maximum exposure time to certain temperatures. Apart from the two injured, the device that was deployed to carry out the extinction of the fire had another six firefighters.

The head of the Consortium has indicated that "there was no one in the sauna, which was empty" when the emergency services arrived, but there were people "in the upper part, which is a solarium", in the "kitchen area" and in the "pool bar area", that's where the smoke was coming from. "We evacuated everyone" because it affected the entire block, he assured, pointing out that everyone returned to the facilities when the firefighters ventilated the area well.

Regarding the causes of the fire, Enrique Espinosa has assured that he does not know, although he has indicated that it could be a derivation in the electrical installation, "because it is the most usual".
