Agents of the Maritime Detachment of Fuerteventura in coordination with troops of the Fiscal Territorial Patrols of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote administratively denounced on October 2 to three people for different infractions of Law 17/2003 of Canarian Fishing and Law 27/1992 of Merchant Marine, after detecting the presence of a pneumatic boat suspected of practicing underwater fishing in the north of the island of Fuerteventura, specifically in the area of El Cotillo and Majanicho; an area of underwater fishing prohibited and whose demarcation is expressly delimited in the law and is limited to certain areas of the islands perfectly bounded.
The suspicious vessel was located by the Civil Guard and monitored by personnel of the Fiscal Territorial Patrol of Fuerteventura, which alerted the agents of the Maritime Service to proceed to inspect the vessel and identify its occupants.
The occupants of the pneumatic boat in question, after sighting the light patrol boat S 36 of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, tried to escape to the port of Playa Blanca -on the island of Lanzarote- where they were finally reached and identified by the agents of the Maritime Service in coordination with the Fiscal Patrol of Lanzarote.
After the inspection of the vessel and the identification of its three occupants, the Civil Guard denounced 14 infractions to various precepts of Law 17/2003 of Canarian Fishing, such as the practice of underwater fishing in prohibited areas, the lack of a valid fishing license, exceeding the established catch limits, and obstruction of the inspection work of the agents, as well as Law 27/1992 of Merchant Marine for irregularities in mandatory boat insurance documentation, lack of enabling titles for boat handling, irregular motorization seating in boats, lack of mandatory safety elements, among other precepts. In addition, the fish on board at that time was seized, a total of 24 kilograms, for subsequent delivery to a charity center on the island.
The skipper has been reported on several occasions
The defendants, residents of the island of Lanzarote, were on board a vessel common in this type of illicit activities that operates around the entire coastline of the island of Lanzarote and north of Fuerteventura, and whose skipper has been reported repeatedly for the practice of underwater fishing in prohibited areas.
"A high knowledge of the fishing areas and movements of the security forces, together with a vessel whose motorization develops high speeds, and the demand for illegal gender propitiate the activity of these groups of irregular fishermen", say from the Civil Guard.
The complaints have been sent to the corresponding administrative authorities responsible for the consequent sanctioning administrative files.
