The Civil Guard of Vecindario and Agüimes, in Gran Canaria, and Tías, in Lanzarote, have arrested the alleged perpetrator of 14 crimes, of which five are robbery with force, four of counterfeiting and three crimes of theft, among others. The agents contacted the detainee through existing social networking sites on the internet.
The investigation began in Lanzarote, where the detainee was identified as the possible perpetrator of several criminal acts committed in Tías, although he could not be located because he regularly changed jobs and did not have a permanent address.
The detainee contacted his victims through the internet through well-known relationship lines. According to the statement from the Armed Institute, he took advantage of "trust and deception to seize their assets or access them by force." Added to this way of acting is that his work in a restaurant allowed him to "access customers' credit cards, duplicate them and use them later."
As a result of the investigations, "a false profile of a woman was created on the internet in order to contact him." After achieving this, an appointment was arranged on March 6 at a shopping center in the south of Gran Canaria, where a special operation was established between the investigation groups of Agüimes and Vecindario, for his location and arrest.
After this, an all-terrain vehicle, jewelry valued at 14,670 euros, two digital cameras, an imitation watch and different personal belongings were recovered.
