The Cabildo of Lanzarote has opened a file on the company Extraocio, SL., responsible for the La Santa shelter, after its director and one of the center's monitors were denounced by the Arrecife Prosecutor's Office for alleged moral abuse of six minors in events that occurred in the summer of 2008. The prosecutor is asking for seven and a half years (90 months) in prison for each of the defendants.
The island institution has placed the facts in the hands of its legal services so that they can determine what actions to take against the company, both through administrative and judicial channels. The case is being handled by the Court of Instruction 2 of Arrecife, where the Prosecutor's Office presented its brief this Monday requesting 15 months in prison for each of the six crimes against as many minors for both defendants.
The events occurred in July 2008 in the La Santa shelter and were reported by the parents of the minors, who denounced mistreatment by the directors of the center. The affected parties came from other islands.
