The barge that was towed this Monday to Arrecife, after being adrift about 50 miles northeast of Lanzarote, will remain in the port of the capital while waiting for the shipowner, of Nigerian origin, to reach an agreement with Maritime Rescue and the Port Authority. As it is a "salvage of goods" and not of people, the shipowner must assume the expenses incurred, as explained to La Voz from Maritime Rescue.

The shipowner has already contacted Maritime Rescue to express his intention to recover the barge, named Opalín. At the moment, the owner of the vessel and Maritime Rescue are "in the negotiation phase", after the towing of this barge to the port "incurred a series of expenses."

In addition, the Port Authority must also undertake another negotiation with the shipowner, fundamentally, for the mooring. Until this situation is resolved, the towed vessel will remain in the port of Arrecife.

The barge broke loose on Sunday from a tugboat, named Tore, and was left floating adrift. Maritime Rescue mobilized the vessel Guardamar Talía, which until Monday afternoon could not tow the barge to the vicinity of the port of Los Mármoles.
