The man arrested last Monday in Costa Teguise, as part of the investigation into the wave of robberies recorded during the month of August, has been remanded in custody. This has been confirmed by the Civil Guard in a statement, which gives an account of this operation that had already been advanced by La Voz de Lanzarote.
The detainee, E.A.B.P, is accused of being the "ringleader" of an alleged organized gang that perpetrated at least 14 robberies in shops. Along with him, his wife and 19-year-old daughter were arrested, who have been released on charges pending trial.
In the press release, the Civil Guard points out that the investigation remains open, "not ruling out more arrests and recoveries of stolen effects." During the search of the detainees' home, located on Panamá street in Costa Teguise, the agents found "a large quantity of stolen effects, such as several televisions, several cash registers and safes, items of clothing and several watches", which have already been returned to their owners.
The investigation
The investigation began as a result of an increase in robberies with force in Costa Teguise since August 1. According to the Civil Guard, they found "a series of indications, regarding the analysis of these crimes, which made the agents suspect that the alleged perpetrators of the same were operating from the same town of Costa Teguise, and that they could be using a home in the area to hide the stolen objects".
As a result, "the occupant of that house, his wife and his daughter were arrested as alleged perpetrators of several crimes of robbery with force in things."
The Civil Guard statement highlights that several units collaborated in the entry and search device, such as the Rapid Intervention Group -G.I.R.- of the Civil Guard Company of Lanzarote, the Reserve and Security Group (G.R.S.) No. 8 of Tenerife; and other security forces, such as the Local Police of Teguise.
