Arrecife Local Police arrested a taxi driver, identified as M.C.B., 39 years old and from
Barcelona, early this Wednesday morning after crashing into two vehicles that were parked on León y Castillo street in the capital. According to several witnesses, the taxi driver rammed two cars, causing considerable damage to them, while driving on the road, "without stopping or showing interest in what happened."
After the witnesses called the Local Police, the agents
managed to arrest the perpetrator in Pérez Galdós street. According to the police report, as soon as the agents exchanged the first
words with the now detained, "they realize that he could exceed the permitted alcohol level, while showing a hostile attitude,
rude and uncooperative."
Subsequently, after the arrival of two new support agents, the taxi driver is more cooperative and agrees to take the breathalyzer test, yielding a positive result that almost tripled the permitted alcohol level, for which he was transferred to police headquarters and placed at judicial disposal.
175 controls in January
On the other hand, the agents of the Local Police of Arrecife continue with
the campaign against drinking and driving, which is carried out
mainly on weekends. Thus, in January there have been
a total of 175 breathalyzer tests, of which 25 were positive and 150 were negative. During this month, none of the drivers who have been required to take the breathalyzer test have refused.
Regarding the tests that gave a positive result, the majority of them, 13, were carried out as a result of traffic violations and only two due to accidents.
