The emergency service of the Red Cross has seen its activity intensified during the month of August, to the point of having between 30 and 90 daily departures. The notices were mostly for emergencies on public roads, in addition to those required in homes that exceed 300 departures, but also highlight the services on the beach and transfers to health or hospital centers.
The assistance to immigrants arriving in boats reaches almost a hundred interventions. The conditions in which they arrive always require an emergency unit to assess their physical condition. In total, they attended to 97 immigrants who reached the coasts of the municipalities of Arrecife and Teguise.
Also, the number of services on the beach stands out, as is to be expected in a month in which the influx is much greater. On 208 occasions, the lifeguards and personnel who are distributed in the Red Cross posts along the beaches of the Island have had to intervene in some incident.
The municipality to which the Red Cross units had to travel the most was Tías, in which they intervened almost 350 times, of which ten were maritime rescues. It also surpasses the rest of the municipalities in emergencies on public roads and incidents that needed transfer for hospital or health care.
In addition, up to 37 traffic accidents requested emergency units to assess and assist the injured. The capital was the place where the most road incidents requested the intervention of the Red Cross, with a total of 14 departures.
