The Provincial Court of Las Palmas has sentenced Sandra Noemí Ramos Tejera to 5 years in prison, arrested in October 2014 after stabbing another woman 7 times on the island of La Graciosa. The accused herself acknowledged the facts during the trial and accepted an agreement with the Prosecutor's Office, by which she has also been imposed a restraining order from the victim for 7 years and the obligation to pay compensation of 5,195 euros for the injuries suffered and another 798 euros for the consequences.
The sentence considers that the accused, 44 years old and a native of Uruguay, is the author of a crime of attempted homicide. And the motive is in the "romantic relationship" that her husband had with the victim, as she herself acknowledged before the Court.
The events occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on October 27, 2014, when Sandra Noemí Ramos went to the supermarket where the woman worked, carrying in her bag a knife "20 centimeters long, 9 of them blade". When the victim left work, "she followed her to the church square, where she reproached her for not having ended the romantic relationship" with her husband, according to the proven facts of the sentence.
Then, she took the knife out of her bag and "with the intention of attacking her life", she "stabbed her up to 7 times in the upper lobe of the left lung and in the lower dorsal region of the back". The wounds caused a "life-threatening risk", according to the ruling, which highlights that an urgent surgical intervention was necessary. In addition, along with other injuries that required treatment, the victim has also suffered sequelae, consisting of a "moderate aesthetic damage".
Given that the accused accepted the agreement, the sentence is now final and no appeal is possible. Now, when serving the sentence, the time she has already spent in prison will be deducted, since she has remained in provisional prison since her arrest. In addition, when she leaves prison, the restraining order will remain in force, by which she cannot approach within 500 meters of the victim.
