Maritime Rescue has evacuated this Sunday a passenger from the Volcán del Teide ferry who became seriously ill when the ship was about 320 miles from the island of Lanzarote --about 515 kilometers--, its destination.

As reported to Europa Press by sources from the state agency, it was around 01:00 hours when the National Maritime Rescue Center received a notice from the ship explaining that the ship's medical services were attending to a man who had fallen ill and required evacuation by air.

In this sense, the national center referred the matter to the Las Palmas Maritime Rescue Coordination Center, which activated the Helimer 222 helicopter, an aircraft that set course for the area while the ferry continued on its route, a common occurrence to speed up the meeting.

Thus, a meeting point was agreed upon about 150 miles from Lanzarote, where the air resource arrived at about 09:30 hours, transferring the man to the island's Airport.

There, a doctor and a medicalized ambulance were waiting to finally take him to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife, where he was admitted in serious condition.
