The Local Police of La Laguna has opened proceedings for glorification of Francoism during the visit of the leader of the far-right party Vox, Santiago Abascal, during his visit to the Canary Islands.
As revealed by Canarias Ahora, the police report includes that during Abascal's walk through some of the most emblematic streets of La Laguna, his companions performed the Nazi salute, also used by the dictator Francisco Franco in his public appearances, "and expressions of exaltation of a Francoist nature."
These actions by Abascal's companions could contravene the provisions of the Democratic Memory Law, which prohibits the exaltation of the dictatorship.
In this regard, the police report is also based on Article 510 of the Penal Code, which classifies incitement to hatred, discrimination, or violence against individuals or groups for ideological or political reasons as crimes.
