The National Police, in collaboration with the Labor and Social Security Inspectorate, has carried out an operation in three establishments in the town of Yaiza, in Lanzarote, in order to verify and eradicate possible crimes against workers' rights, fraud against social security and human trafficking.
The operation was carried out on February 21, where a total of three inspections were carried out, a total of 17 people were identified between managers and workers, of which 12 of them were in an irregular administrative situation in national territory, which means that the couple who ran the businesses had more than 60% of their workforce in an irregular situation.
Once the investigation was completed, the owners/managers, a couple of Indian origin, both without police records and aged 49 and 43, were arrested and charged with the crimes of facilitating irregular immigration and against workers' rights, as they repeatedly hired foreign citizens without a work permit in Spain, in breach of labor and immigration regulations.
In addition, within the scope of the powers of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, proceedings were initiated and a sanction was proposed for the companies of the detainees for irregularities related to the hiring of foreign workers who were in Spain without the proper work permit, with fines of between 501 euros and 10,000 euros per worker.
