The Canary Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment (ACPMN) has notified the initiation of a file regarding environmental matters to a company in the municipality of Arrecife and proposed a fine of thirty thousand euros. The company in question maintained a plot with rubble spills, a situation that puts at risk the specific and valuable nature of our environment in the Canary Islands.

The agents of the Local Police of Arrecife, belonging to the Citizen Attention Operative Group (GOAC), discovered the uncontrolled dumping of rubble last February during their routine work. As a result, they carried out a thorough expert appraisal and a detailed technical report, supported with photographs, geolocating the areas and providing cadastral references to facilitate their location. This report was submitted to the corresponding body. As a consequence of these actions, the person in charge of the company has been notified of the opening of the sanctioning file for a serious infraction.

The sanctions for this type of infraction range between 2,001 euros and 100,000 euros. Considering the particular circumstances of this case, the Canary Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment has proposed a fine of 30,000 euros. However, the sanctioning procedure also offers the possibility of compensating for the damage. If the company acknowledges the facts, the sanction could be reduced by up to 40%, remaining at 18,000 euros.

From the City Council and the Local Police they emphasize "the importance of awareness in environmental matters". In addition, they report the "intensification of surveillance in the municipal area to prevent our environment from continuing to be harmed by negligent activities. We urge all companies and citizens to collaborate in the protection and conservation of our natural environment, and we encourage citizens to continue reporting uncivil acts".

Finally, they point out that "it is essential that everyone, from institutions to individuals, assume our responsibility in the preservation of the natural environment that we value so much. The collaboration and commitment of all are essential to avoid future infractions and ensure a sustainable future for our island".
