The Civil Guard agent Manuel Arbesú, who was assigned to the Puerto del Carmen barracks, has been suspended since November 1. This was confirmed this Tuesday by the Ministry of Defense, when publishing in the Official Gazette the order to suspend the agent's employment for two years. The civil guard, who was convicted of failing to prosecute crimes after recording a sexual assault on a train while laughing at the events, was later pardoned by the Government. However, a file was opened in the body that has ended in his suspension for two years.
In addition, the order published in the Official Defense Gazette establishes that, if after this time he wishes to rejoin the Main Post of Tías, where he was assigned, he could not do so until after an additional 2 years.
The sanction has been imposed on Arbesú by the Las Palmas Command in its Main Post in Tías, by virtue of the Disciplinary Regime of the Civil Guard.
The events for which Arbesú has been suspended from the body occurred in 2011 in Asturias, during a vacation. According to the sentence issued in 2013, Manuel Arbesú González boarded a train bound for Oviedo with a friend, when he began to address a passenger with "obscene" expressions. Even, according to the proven facts, "he put his hand between her legs, touching the area of the pubis over her pants." Meanwhile, the agent remained seated recording the scene and even laughing, despite the fact that his companion even assaulted a passenger who tried to defend the young woman.
In June of this year, the Government decided to pardon the agent, and that also prevented him from being expelled from the body, since a conviction implied his immediate expulsion. The pardon was harshly criticized, both in the media and in political forums and within the Benemérita itself.
