The Cleaning Department of the Arrecife City Council has registered 49 sanction proposals for infringements of the municipal cleaning ordinance, from November 21 to this Tuesday, December 10.

These infractions have been detected mostly thanks to the video surveillance camera system installed in strategic points of the city.

Among the identified actions are surprising situations, such as a person who threw a moped inside a container, or offenders who tried to cover their faces to avoid being identified by the cameras. Almost half of these infractions correspond to companies located in Arrecife that failed to comply with their obligation to correctly manage their waste.

Councilman Jacobo Lemes has highlighted that, in addition to the cameras, citizen collaboration has been crucial in detecting these uncivil acts, as well as the work of the environmental unit that operates incognito. “We are seeing everything in the recordings, from people who deliberately hide to companies that ignore their responsibility. We will continue to act firmly against those who pollute our city and harm coexistence,” he says.

The councilman emphasizes that these behaviors not only affect the image and health of Arrecife, but also have a direct impact on the quality of life of its residents. “Uncivil behavior has no place in our city. Our goal is clear: to guarantee a clean and pleasant environment for everyone,” he indicates.

In addition, he recalls that the City Council provides citizens with a free collection service for belongings and clean points for the correct disposal of waste. “There are no excuses for abandoning waste on public roads. We ask our neighbors and companies to be responsible and use the available municipal resources,” Lemes concludes.
