Two men have been identified as alleged perpetrators of the container burning in the municipality of San Bartolomé, which was reported by both the City Council and the company awarded the service. According to the City Council, judicial proceedings have already been opened against both of them.

The City Council recalls that last year they already faced the occasional burning of containers, and last month it happened again in four different locations in the town of San Bartolomé, specifically on Fernando Díaz Cutillas, Los Reyes, Caldereta and Los Reyes streets crossing with Ramón y Cajal street, in the latter burning two containers, "with the danger of the proximity of cars", one of which was damaged.

In addition, in Playa Honda, on Carretera de las Playas street, a plastic container was also completely burned, affecting cardboard and glass containers, telephone and lighting wiring and with "considerable damage" to the asphalt.

"Thanks to the magnificent neighborhood collaboration, rapid action and good work of the Local Police and Civil Guard, the events have remained an incident without major consequences, and we have also been able to identify the people who are supposedly behind these criminal actions," emphasizes the City Council, which adds that the fire in all cases was extinguished by the firefighters of the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote and "no major damage was lamented thanks to the efficient joint action of security forces, emergencies and neighborhood."

The mayor, Alexis Tejera, has thanked the neighborhood collaboration, "fundamental to clarify the facts" and highlights that from the City Council "a constant effort is made to maintain, improve and beautify the infrastructures and public spaces." "We are constantly working on the replacement of containers and bins, cleaning of surrounding areas, and we carefully take care of the urban furniture that serves our entire neighborhood, so we make a call to civic-mindedness, to denounce all the acts of vandalism that we see on public roads, because only with the involvement of citizens will we be able to put an end to attitudes of this nature, which although few, disturb coexistence," he added.
