The Civil Guard of Lanzarote, in collaboration with the Customs and Special Taxes Administration of the Tax Agency on the island, arrested on May 14 at the Lanzarote Airport a 24-year-old person as the author of a crime against Public Health in the form of drug trafficking.
According to the press release issued by the Civil Guard, this person was carrying narcotic substances inside his checked luggage, which were detected in the Arrivals Hall of Terminal 1 of the Lanzarote Airport.
Within the framework of the functions of Fiscal Protection of the State and the actions aimed at preventing and prosecuting smuggling, as well as the prevention of criminal acts, including drug trafficking, agents of the UDAIFF and the Fiscal Guard randomly inspected several passengers on a flight from Malaga.
As a result, a person was arrested for drug trafficking. These events occurred during the fiscal control of a flight from Malaga, in which a selection of people and luggage from several passengers was carried out. When carrying out the appropriate checks through the X-ray machine, an organic material was detected in a suitcase that required an appropriate check, so the Civil Guard proceeded to examine its contents.
The passenger, who initially denied carrying anything strange inside his luggage, after the exploration of the same and in a zippered pocket, was intercepted with five tablets of a brown resinous substance that apparently appeared to be hashish, which is why the corresponding tests were carried out, testing positive for this substance, which had a total weight of 492 grams.
Therefore, the appropriate police proceedings were carried out, leaving the detainee at the disposal of the Arrecife Duty Court.
