THE NUMBER OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS DETAINED THIS WEEK AFTER ARRIVING IN LANZAROTE ON BOARD 3 BOATS RISES TO 34

A boat with 16 illegal immigrants on board reached Garita beach, in the municipality of Haría, this Saturday at dawn.

According to data provided by the NGO Spanish Red Cross in Lanzarote, the Civil Guard of the Port of Costa Teguise was aware of the arrival of the boat at around 02:00 hours, at which time the alarm was activated through the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES 1-1-2).

According to the Civil Guard, its occupants tried to flee running, at which point the agents quickly surrounded and intercepted them.

There were 16 Moroccan men traveling in the boat (15 adults between 20 and 42 years old, together with a 12-year-old minor). All of them were transferred to the Costa Teguise barracks and later placed at the disposal of the National Police for subsequent repatriation.

A Red Cross team also traveled to La Garita beach to assist the immigrants, of Maghreb origin.

They were all in good health except for one of the occupants, who had to be evacuated by ambulance to the General Hospital of Lanzarote suffering from a knee injury.
