Agents of the Civil Guard of San Bartolomé and Tías and members of the Local Police had to be activated this Saturday due to a fight between "at least 50 minors" in the vicinity of the Deiland shopping center in Playa Honda, as confirmed to La Voz from the Civil Guard. In addition, some sources point to about a hundred young people involved, as specified by the Benemérita.
From the City Council, for their part, they point out that the young people caused some damage to street furniture, painting graffiti and breaking the fence of a playground, but there were no injuries. "It was more the alarm," says Councilor Alexis Tejera.
Also from the Canary Islands Security and Emergency Coordinating Center they have confirmed that they received the notice of this fight, although they finally did not have to intervene, since there were no injuries. According to a mother who witnessed the events, one of the minors was even carrying a knife, although from the City Council they point out that "nothing was found" when registering the young people. However, the Civil Guard does confirm that one of the minors was carrying a "punch", considered a bladed weapon. In fact, this minor has been reported based on the Citizen Security Law, which establishes a minimum fine of 601 euros for carrying weapons on public roads.
Meeting through social networks
From the City Council they affirm that the minors "were pushing and insulting each other", and even that they had arranged through social networks and Whatsapp to meet in the area of the Deiland shopping center. When the agents arrived at the scene, the minors moved to another square, where the altercations continued.
Finally, some young people had to be "escorted to the bus stop" so that they could return to their respective homes. According to the City Council, there were young people from Arrecife, Playa Blanca and other municipalities on the island.
The incident recorded this Saturday adds to the one experienced last February, when another fight between young people in the Deiland area ended with three minor injuries. On that occasion, the protagonists were members of two soccer teams, one from Playa Honda and the other from Arrecife, who had also "arranged" to meet in that area, since there had been a struggle between them for some time.
In addition, in that fight one of the minors was carrying an air pistol, and when he fired it, it generated an avalanche of people who tried to take shelter inside the shopping center. As a result, two minors and one worker suffered minor injuries and the automatic door of the center also suffered damage.
