A father has helped his daughter to be born in Granadilla, in Tenerife, thanks to the teleassistance received by the Canary Emergency Service, which advised him to resuscitate the baby after suffering a respiratory arrest, as reported by the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The father saved his daughter's life last Friday, January 3, after receiving help from Betsy Álvarez, coordinating doctor, and Alexis Hernández, coordinating nurse of the Canary Emergency Service (SUC), attached to the public company Gestión de Servicios para la Salud y Seguridad en Canarias and dependent on the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands.
At 01.50 hours, the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 112 of the Government of the Canary Islands, received a call requesting assistance for a woman who was giving birth in a house in San Isidro.
At the time of the alert, made by the father, the mother of the little girl, with a full-term pregnancy, was in the expulsive phase of a breech birth.
After collecting the necessary information, the health personnel present in the emergency room of Tenerife gave the necessary instructions to finish the delivery, confirming that the little girl was in respiratory arrest.
The father proceeded to resuscitate the baby, managing to reverse the situation thanks to the guidelines given by telephone by the coordinating nurse, who highlighted the “concentration and tranquility” that the parent maintained at all times, the note adds.
Minutes later, the Local Police of Granadilla de Abona arrived at the house together with two advanced life support ambulances from the SUC, one of them medicalized.
The personnel of both advanced resources attended to the newborn and the woman and proceeded to cut the umbilical cord.
In turn, the health personnel communicated during the transfer in the ambulance the situation of mother and daughter, monitored at all times, to the Pediatric and Gynecology units of the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital, where both were transferred in good condition.
