The NGO Spanish Red Cross in Lanzarote reported the death of a 55-year-old man at Playa Bastián, Costa Teguise.
At 18:13 on Friday, a call was received at the Island Coordination Center of the association, in which several witnesses warned of a possible drowning on the aforementioned beach.
The Red Cross sent an ambulance and two aquatic lifeguards to the scene, who were located at the first aid station that the NGO has at Playa de Las Cucharas, in the same area of Costa Teguise.
At the same time, both Local Police and Civil Guard of Yaiza, as well as personnel from the Canary Emergency Service (SUC) went to the scene.
At 18:35 the aquatic lifeguards arrived at the scene of the emergency, rescued the patient, who was approximately 70 meters from the shore, and, once on land, performed cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers since the patient was suffering from a cardiorespiratory arrest (CRA).
Unfortunately, and despite also mobilizing a rescue vehicle, the health personnel could not save the victim, a 55-year-old man.
