The south of Lanzarote celebrated Canary Islands Day from last Monday, May 29 in the afternoon and evening in the Plaza de Los Remedios in the town of Yaiza, to finish the commemoration of the Autonomous Community, the Day of the eight Islands, the Great Day of the Canary Islands, this Tuesday, May 30 with the institutional act and solemn flag raising in Limones street in Playa Blanca and the performances of the Rubicón Folkloric Group and the Tebete group in the square of the southern tourist center.
Yaiza united joy, music and tradition in two days where there was also a Canarian wrestling exhibition as a sample of the Archipelago's most traditional sport. The acting mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, highlighted that "May 30 is always an opportunity to highlight our culture and honor the greatness of our people."
Noda added that "we are a hospitable and multicultural land and we want to keep traditions very alive among people who were born in the Canary Islands and among the neighbors who, being from other places in Spain and the world, feel Yaiza, Lanzarote and the Canary Islands as their own land, and that is integration and coexistence, and therefore, it is a reason for immense happiness."
The president, accompanied by the Councilor for Celebrations, Javier Camacho, and councilors of the Municipal Corporation, presided over the flag raising to the tune of the Yaiza Municipal Band, which not only performed the Canary Islands anthem, but also offered an exquisite repertoire in public, applauded by the public who resisted saying goodbye to the Band.
"Last May 29 in Yaiza the stall was very lively," confirms the City Council. "The attendance shared wine and homemade delicacies and sang and danced with the Pal' Porrón, Son de Mar and El Geito groups, in the Plaza de Los Remedios," they collect.
"And if the Yaiza stall was luxurious, the Playa Blanca one was no less," he highlights. "The bodies of touch and dance of the Rubicón Folkloric Group offered their most traditional music and the Tebete group closed the festive day," he adds. Both in Yaiza and in Playa Blanca there were children's workshops for the youngest population.
Finally, Yaiza enjoyed its Canary Islands Day congratulating the people of the eight Islands, he concludes.
