The Historic City of Yaiza began this Friday the program organized by the City Council to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Tenerife writer Rafael Arozarena Doblado, author of the novel Mararía inspired by Femés, which this year celebrates 50 years of having been published, as well as celebrating its 25 years the production of the film based on the literary work, three cultural events coinciding in 2023 that, as could be seen in Femés, stir emotions and that art, better than anyone, is capable of interpreting.
The overwhelming force of creation illuminated a night allied with little cold in Femés. The town discovered María, the one from Femés, the sculpture created and sculpted by Cintia Machín by municipal commission that perpetuates at the foot of the Femés viewpoint the most beautiful memories of Arozarena's passage through the town that provoked the muse to write one of the most recognized works of Canarian literature.
The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, highlighted about Arozarena that "we meet in Femés to remember that author so simple and humble that before the unprecedented success of his novel he said: it is not my best work because I have only told what they told me. In that Femés has merit and therefore the tribute is also for the town".
Daniel Medina, Councilor for Culture of Yaiza, pointed out in his speech that "the novel Mararía is considered a classic work of literature and looking at it is looking at Femés." Medina praised the artistic work of Cintia Machín and the creator also expressed her gratitude to the mayor and the City Council for trusting in the presence of her art for the exquisite intervention in public spaces, in this case, interpreting the María de Femés, the literary character, the character described by locals, "with a still, tall, dry, dark and lurking silhouette, a physique that is confused with landscape aspects of Lanzarote or with the facade of the church here present".
There was Elia, Arozarena's daughter, moved, surrounded by neighbors of the municipality and by Lanzarote residents in other parts of the Island participating in an evening tinged with literature, plastic arts, contemporary dance and music.
Music in the overture with Canarian airs and music for the closing with the performance of the singer-songwriter Pedro Guerra, creator of the soundtrack of the film Mararía, who of course, could not get off the stage without performing his Mararía, and as was well heard in the mouth of María del Pino Fuentes in the farewell of the act, "congratulations Femés, María returns home, María la de Femés".
