The Teguise Easter Ranch presented its highest honorary distinction, posthumously, to Efigenia Torres Martín on the night of December 24th, as part of the traditional Nativity Scene of the Birth of the Child Jesus, one of the most emblematic and cherished events of Christmas in the Villa de Teguise.
The recognition took place during the celebration of this reenactment, deeply rooted in the municipality's history and identity, and which continues to live on thanks to the commitment of entire generations, as well as the participation of Rancho Chico and its little angels, who bring light, tenderness, and emotion to the most special night of the Christmas calendar.
With this tribute, the Rancho de Pascuas wanted to highlight the figure of Efigenia Torres Martín, a woman remembered for her endearing, simple, and supportive nature, and for her deep love of Teguise's customs and traditions. Although she was not originally from the municipality, she fully integrated into the life of the town, making it her own through respect, curiosity, and admiration.
Throughout her life, Efigenia stood out for her **constant involvement in the community**, collaborating with the Parish, Cáritas, and various cultural and educational initiatives. She learned and preserved traditional knowledge, especially in the artisanal field, being widely recognized for her mastery of the "roseta," as well as in "presilla," "blonda," lace, and cutwork, which today are part of the island's cultural heritage.Christmas held a very special place in her life. Every December 25th, her home became a space for gathering and hospitality, where she opened her doors to share food, conversation, and affection, a simple gesture that symbolized her faith, her humility, and her commitment to community values.
The Teguise Easter Ranch highlighted that Efigenia never sought any recognition, but she left an indelible mark on those who knew her. Her legacy lives on today in her family and in the collective memory of the town, as an example of dedication, generosity, and love for traditions.
With this distinction, the Rancho de Pascuas de Teguise wished to pay a sincere tribute to his memory and reaffirm the value of people who, with simplicity, contribute to keeping the cultural and human identity of the Villa de Teguise alive.
