The Romería de Los Dolores has once again shone with great participation after overcoming the health crisis caused by the pandemic. Thousands of pilgrims arrived on foot from all corners of Lanzarote and from La Graciosa this Saturday to the Mancha Blanca hermitage, where the image of Nuestra Señora de Los Volcanes, the vicar of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, Juan Carlos Medina, and the parish priest of Tinajo, Francisco García, awaited them, who officiated a mass at 12:00 and another at 16:30.
The greeting of a horseman, as has been customary for several years, opened the offering to the Virgen de los Dolores. The Timbayba Folk Group, from Tinajo, was the first to perform before the Patron Saint of the island, to whom they offered a heartfelt folía. The performance of Chago Melián, who was part of the Haría delegation, moved a devoted audience.
The offering from the Cabildo de Lanzarote consisted of more than 250 kilos of fresh food and other non-perishable products, in addition to the “pride of venerating the Patron Saint of the Island”, in the words of its president, María Dolores Corujo, who led the offering. Corujo was accompanied by the president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, and several councilors from the Cabildo and councilors from the City Council.
The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, declared: “I have come to accompany the thousands of residents of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands who have come from all the Islands to this magnificent Romería, to be able to enjoy it after it could not be celebrated for the last two years. We are at the most important festivals in Lanzarote and I see people smiling and happy again. That is why I had to be here and wanted to be here.”
The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote thanked “the great reception that these patron saint festivities so loved on the island have” and expressed a single request to the Virgen de Los Dolores: “Health for everyone, since it is the most important thing.”
In fact, during the offering, the fainting of one of the members of the delegation was lamented, who was immediately attended to by the health services and transferred in an ambulance to the Dr. Molina Orosa General Hospital and to whom the president wished a speedy recovery.
“Valuable work by the personnel of the Security and Emergency Consortium and collaborating entities that make this pilgrimage a safe event”
María Dolores Corujo thanked “the valuable work carried out by the personnel of the Security and Emergency Consortium and other collaborating entities to make the festivities safe.”
The pilgrimage also had the collaboration of a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) of the Government of the Canary Islands, members of Ayuda en Emergencias Anaga (AEA), from Tenerife.
Ease of public transport by the Cabildo
Once again, thousands of faithful pilgrims did not miss their appointment with one of the most popular events on the Los Dolores festival program from all points of the island and the Canary Archipelago. In order to meet the needs of the thousands of people who came to Mancha Blanca, the Cabildo de Lanzarote reinforced the coverage of bus and taxi services.
The Cabildo de Lanzarote will also extend the frequencies and hours of the bus service for the main events that will take place in the coming days on the occasion of the Los Dolores festivities. This will be the case during the double concert on the eve of the big day of Los Dolores, on Wednesday the 14th, and the celebration of the different religious ceremonies and fireworks on the 15th.
