The Department of Culture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has presented a new cultural project for artistic promotion. This is 'Desembarco', whose objective is "to disseminate the work of Lanzarote artists abroad, whatever their discipline, valuing their creations and productions and making them known outside the borders of Lanzarote and even the Canary Islands", explained the councilor, Oscar Pérez.
Along with 'Desembarco', the first activity included in the project was also announced this Thursday, which will take three artists from Lanzarote, Moneiba Lemes, Daniel Jordán and Nicolás Laiz to the Emerging Art Fair of Madrid JustMad7. The presentation took place in the studio of the painter Nicolás Laiz and was attended by the Minister of Culture, Óscar Pérez, the commissioner who selected the three artists and the works that will attend the fair, Adonay Bermúdez, and Laiz himself.
Lanzarote Cultural Action Plan 2020
"The obligation to help disseminate the work of Lanzarote artists abroad is not only one of the cultural competences assigned to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, but it is also one of the primary objectives that we all set in the Lanzarote Cultural Action Plan 2020", declared the councilor.
"The Desembarco project aims to allow the art and culture generated from Lanzarote to 'land' in other places, and achieve the visibility and impact that local creators deserve", said Pérez. Similarly, the councilor announced that the project will cover a "wide variety of artistic disciplines", and that the department he directs "is already working on those that will follow JustMad7, including some other activities of plastic arts, one of music and another of amateur theater".
Pérez added that all actions "will be based on contemporaneity and the real possibilities of professional promotion of artists". "The objective is that local creators can really show their work to people who can really open doors in their professional future".
Three Lanzarote artists at JustMad7
For his part, the commissioner in charge of selecting the artists and their work, Adonay Bermúdez from Lanzarote, wanted to thank the Culture area of the Cabildo, its councilor and its technicians for trusting him for this work, and stated that "it is an obligation for administrations to support local art, but at the same time in a rare gesture, so we appreciate the sensitivity of the Cabildo of Lanzarote with this project".

In turn, Bermúdez explained to the media present the reasons that led him to select the three artists who will attend JustMad7, Moneiba Lemes, Daniel Jordán and Nicolás Laiz: "The three are in an impressive creative moment, carrying out works full of contemporaneity and of high quality. At the same time, and being a fair for emerging artists, you cannot bring established creators, or painters whose work has not yet reached a certain degree of identity and maturity. The three selected artists meet the profile required by a fair like this", said the commissioner.
Finally, Adonay Bermúdez explained that JustMad is a fair "with a great reception in the art world, it takes place between February 23 and 28, on the same dates as ARCO, and ensures an excellent impact on the artists who attend it".
"Lanzarote, once again at the forefront"
The last to speak was the painter and sculptor Nicolás Laiz. Laiz also wanted to thank both the commissioner and the Cabildo itself for having counted on him for this first Desembarco project, and added that he saw it as "very necessary" that this type of project be promoted by public administrations.
"Although thanks to the digital world the dissemination of the work of an artist from the periphery abroad is now easier, it is no less true that presence at this type of event is necessary to make oneself known in the art world. And perhaps, with this type of initiatives in which the main administration of the island joins the local artists seeking the projection of Lanzarote abroad, we can once again place Lanzarote at the forefront of the arts, as it was for a long time".
