The exhibition 'Hilar Fino' is the result of the project presented by the folk groups Coros y Danzas Arrecife and Malpaís de La Corona in 2015, which had the support of the Education and Culture area of the Cabildo de Lanzarote. This exhibition is composed of eight pairs of mannequins with the traditional clothing of Lanzarote, in which daily wear, work clothes and party clothes are represented.
On the day of its presentation, carried out on the main floor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the councilor responsible for the area, Óscar Pérez, committed himself to the two folk groups to put the necessary means at their disposal so that it would rotate through the seven municipalities of Lanzarote, including the island of La Graciosa as well.
On Saturday, April 1st, at 12:00 noon, the exhibition was inaugurated, which was attended by the Culture technician and project coordinator, José Mª Barreto. He explained to everyone present how this project had been developed, which is very important to raise public awareness of how traditional clothing should be used when wearing it in popular events such as pilgrimages or Canarian dances. Then the representative of the Teguise city council on the island, Alicia Páez, took the floor, who -since she was informed of the idea of moving the exhibition to the island- made herself available so that they would not lack anything when carrying it out. She was also very satisfied with the positive result and the interest it has aroused among the Gracioceros and among all those who are enjoying their vacations on the island these days.
Immediately afterwards, and as has been done in each of the municipalities where the exhibition has been presented, the two groups presented the traditional dances to the public present. Coros y Danzas Arrecife performed 'Isa de Sol' and 'Malagueña', and Malpaís de La Corona 'Seguidillas' and 'Folias'. The two families received as a reward the prolonged applause of the public present.
The garments that are exhibited in "Hilar Fino" have been reproduced from a work of investigation and search for very old garments that some families kept in different localities of Lanzarote.
'Hilar Fino' will be exhibited on the island of La Graciosa until Sunday, April 9.
