On the night of last Saturday, the family of the Gaida Folk Group of the municipality of Tías fulfilled its commitment to its followers by celebrating its X Folk Festival at the Guardilama sociocultural center of the town of Mácher.

The event, which was followed by several friends and supporters, began at 9:00 p.m. with the performance of the Imoque Folk Group, which came from the municipality of Adeje, in the south of the island of Tenerife. The creation of Imoque, whose name is related to a mountain in the municipality, dates back to 2013, with a total of 38 members divided between the body of touch and dance, for its staging.

They wear a traditional dress dating from the 18th century in which you can see the representation of each of the islands that make up the province of Tenerife. For this occasion, they took a tour with their most traditional songs and dances that are preserved throughout the province. Although this was the first time that Imoque had performed in Lanzarote, they felt the welcome of the public, as they were always attentive to each of the choreographies exhibited, being reciprocated with applause.

The second place in the festival was reserved for the organizers, the great family of the Gaida Folk Group. They are people committed to the traditional culture of Lanzarote, a total of 36 members who gave everything when they took to the stage, choosing for this edition the most traditional of Lanzarote's songs and dances such as Seguidillas, Sorondongo, Folias or Malagueñas.

On the other hand, the management of Gaida in each edition of its festival recognizes the contribution of men and women who have contributed with their effort and good work to ensure that the cultural legacy inherited from our elders remains alive. In this edition, recognition was given to the González Fontes family, made up of the brothers, Pedro, María del Carmen, Juan Manuel and María Dolores, who since they were very young have been linked to the folk and cultural groups of the municipality of Tías. For this involvement, the Gaida family presented them with handcrafted sculptures, and once the recognition was carried out, they performed one of the pieces with the most feeling in their verses. During the choreography, which was a real attraction, two honored brothers, Pedro and María del Carmen, formed a couple to dance.

Without a doubt, once this expression of dance was finished, the audience stood up and gave them the longest applause. Immediately afterwards, the chords sounded that brought the end to this day where, for another year, the Gaida family contributed to ensuring that our customs and traditions remain in force.
