The film 'Intimate Cartographies of an Island' arrives in Lanzarote, which was presented this Monday at a press conference, starring this year's project 'Destiladera. Lanzarote revealed'. An initiative of the Tenique Cultural association, aimed at the dissemination and recovery of amateur films from the last century. The objective is to "recover and exhibit" amateur films, and the film, a montage by the filmmaker Dailo Barco, will be screened between May 29 and June 8, as Tenique Cultural has pointed out.

The Tenique association, determined to bring culture to every corner of the island, will program the film for the first time in emblematic spaces in the seven municipalities of Lanzarote. An activity full of moments of suspended time, sepia images that bring us back to childhoods of ribbons in the hair and stretched socks, of trips on the back of a donkey, of hard-working women and austere men in front of an unoccupied landscape, of isolated and hard lives that, however, contain precious moments of joy and well-being, worthy of being recorded.

In his speech, the Councilor for Culture of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jesús Machín, stressed the importance of this initiative, in which all the town councils, the first Corporation, a cultural association and private companies have found themselves in the interest and the will to carry out a project collaboratively. "It is essential that the younger generations have access to the wisdom of their elders; because only by knowing our past can we build a better future without repeating mistakes and advancing on a path of progress."

For the first time, 'Destiladera' collaborates with the seven municipalities of the island, whose public representatives have been present in the Plenary Hall to support the ethnographic, historical and cultural interest of this activity.

The director of Tenique, Javier Fuentes, recounted the raids throughout the island in search of the precious audiovisual materials from the sixties to the nineties, often forgotten in garages and drawers, which contain a great deal of information about the past of Lanzarote, its uses and traditions, its trades, clothing and tools, its games and rituals.

"Attending these screenings is a unique opportunity; it allows us to relive moments of our childhood or learn how our elders lived. The dialogue that is always promoted at the end of each session also fosters social relationships and a sense of community," he said.

The final montage of the Tenerife filmmaker Dailo Barco is the result of the "restoration and montage of those domestic images of incalculable value, ceded by their owners for their restoration and public viewing and preserved in many cases in different public archives", they have stressed.

The film, which brings to the surface the daily moments of the island's past, will be shown publicly in landmark spaces of special historical or civic significance, with free access until full capacity is reached. Each evening will end with a talk and a snack, thanks to the support of the association of artisan cheese factories of Lanzarote AQUAL and the Vega de Yuco winery.
