'Paint and Take Care of Your Island' Contest Awards

The autonomous drawing contest 'Paint and Take Care of Your Island' held a virtual award ceremony for its fifth edition. It was held from the headquarters of the Orvecame business group and was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education of the Canary Islands, María Dolores Rodríguez.

The names of the contest winners, jointly organized by Orvecame, the car rental company CICAR and the Mercedes Medina Díaz Association, were already published last July but, due to the Covid pandemic, the award ceremony was still pending, which has finally been virtual.

The event was chaired by Nieves Cabrera Cabrera, CEO of the co-organizing company, Juan Cruz Sepúlveda, president of the Mercedes Medina Díaz Association, Manuel Betancor Cabrera and Mercedes Maura Palarea Medina, vice president and member of said association respectively, and Carmen Rosa Márquez Aguilar and Carmen Rosa Barreto Viñoly, "the two people most involved and committed to promoting this magnificent educational experience".

During the event, a video conference communication was established with each classroom of the winning students, to personally congratulate each one and give them a live applause, before several hundred students from all the islands. The winners were also informed of the collection points

The event was opened by Nieves Cabrera, but all attendees spoke during the event, interacting with the different centers. One of the winning students, Daniela Arrocha from CEIP Capellanía de Yágabo, thanked for the opportunity to participate in a contest that promotes good values and awareness.

The award ceremony was closed by Juan Cruz, who again congratulated the winners and encouraged them to participate in the next edition, announcing that until February 2021 a period of reception of ideas for the slogan of the VI edition of the contest has been opened.

The V edition of 'Paint and Take Care of Your Island', aimed at children and primary school students, was held this year under the slogan 'Islands Without Plastic' and was attended by more than 300 contestants from the 8 islands of the archipelago, "with the aim, one more year, of encouraging and promoting creativity and social awareness in young people through the plastic arts in a recreational, instructive and didactic way".
